Fingernails are important

Have you ever thought about how healthy your nails are? Well, when you start playing the sarod, you'll never stop thinking about it. Nails are essential to how well the sarod sounds. In the early stages, your nails will hurt, and they might even bleed (ouch). Your nails will harden over time. You could use false nails, but you won't have that feel with the string like you would with real nails. Nails could break if they are not maintained properly (filed or not enough practice with the sarod). Those usually take 1-2 weeks to grow back. A good tip is to take calcium tablets to harden the nail.

Maestro Ali Akbar Khan

Maestro Ali Akbar Khan was one of India's most accomplished classical musicians. He was born in 1922 in East Bengal, Bangladesh. Started studying music at three years old. Practiced the sarod and vocals about eighteen hours a day. Performed in the United States in 1955. In 1967, he founded the Ali Akbar College of Music. Needless to say, this man is a musical legend, and his story will live on for many years to come.

I decided to use this instrument because I used to play the guitar as a kid and this has similarities to it. It is also a very interesting instrument from just looking at it. Some sarods have as many as 20 strings. Incredible!
